Does anyone have experience with using the DVI connector on the Dell E-Port or E-Port Plus? I got an E-Port Plus from eBay listed as "new" and have it hooked up using the DVI connection with my new E6410 driving it (with NVidia 3100M graphics). Black text on white background has a bit of a red glow to it that didn't happen with my older laptop/dock combo. I'm trying to figure out if it is a bad E-Port or if this is just the way the E-Port/E6410/3100M will be. Any ideas or opinions? Thanks.

I use a normal E-Port (i.e. only one DVI port, vs. two on the E-Port Plus) with my E6400. I've hooked it up through DVI to both a Samsung <forgot the model number> 1680x1050 22'' LCD and a Samsung P2270HD 1920x1080 22'' LCD/TV. In both cases I found the quality of the link to be pretty good, and never noticed the red glow you mentioned.

On the other hand, I never specifically searched for the red glow, so I'll check it when I get home. "I'll get back to you" (copyright Jack Bauer from 24)

I just confirmed -- I see no red glow (or any glow for that matter) on black text on white background.

Thanks, HerrKaputt. After your post, I got a DP to DVI cable so I could test the same setup without the Port Replicator and the problem was still there. I started thinking it was the NVidia 3100M card so I played with settings. Turned out not to be a hardware problem at all. It's the Windows7 ClearType which adds the glow so the text appears smoother. I didn't see it with my old laptop setup because WinXP didn't have it enabled by default.

Glad to hear it's "fixed" :)

Well, not exactly "fixed"! Although it isn't a hardware problem, I still have the problem. To me the text looks blurry but shutting off ClearText makes it too ragged. On XP, fonts didn't look ragged nor blurry. I've played around with the ClearText settings and minimized the issue but I' still think the text display is not as good as it was with XP. Too bad but I'm going to have to live with it.
