I would like to know if anyone has any comments or concerns about the Dell E5520. I am looking into buying one but i have not been able to find any reviews on it. Everything about it looks great but i had two questions.

    1. Does it get excessively hot?
    2. Is it loud?

Any other comments about it would also be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Here's an unboxing/semi-review of the E5520. It doesn't really say much about your questions though, unfortunately.

Also, side note: Be sure to get the FHD 1920x1080 display upgrade, not the basic 1366x768 screen. The larger workspace is very nice to have and it helps with everything.

    Hi edit1754,
i was wondering if you could give me some feedback on what the 1920x1080 display would be like on a 15.6" screen. Will the text be too small? I like to watch movies and tv shows and I want it to look good, but i also browse the internet a lot and i would not like to strain my eyes too much. Please let me know what you think

1920x1080 in a 15.6" definitely makes items on the screen smaller, but I personally find this nice to have.
I would highly advise against the standard 1366x768 screen, because the Dell Latitudes are known to come with terrible-quality 1366x768 screens.

Windows has a DPI setting that increases the size of text for windows UI elements, but it doesn't affect applications.

I think 1920x1080 is just fine, but if you don't think you want to go that high in resolution you might want to go with the Thinkpad L520 (not L512) instead, and get the 1600x900 screen, or get a Dell Latitude E6520 with the 1600x900 screen.

The 1600x900 panel doesn't suffer from the awful quality issues as the 1366x768 does, not to mention the resolution makes more sense for a laptop as big as 15.6"
Plus, the 1600x900 (E6520) and 1920x1080 panels are brighter than the 1366x768.

Which country do you live in? I know the Thinkpad L520 isn't available in all.

That is actually my video up there but I registered here to ask some questions and maybe provide some info.

The DVD player is loud when spooling up with occasional fan spikes during playback but the machine itself is hardly audible when doing basic tasks. Running benchmarks and then battery drain did not produce excessive heat. E5520 is nowhere near older machines, like a D820 I recently worked with, that would scorch a lap in a few minutes. The FHD is bright and text is incredibly sharp. It's actually hard to go from that panel (An LG according to device_id) back to my desktop 24". You can Fn screen brightness on the fly and the keyboard too.

    DON´T BUY IT!

This i7 Laptop given to me by my employers is SLOW, None Stop Nosiy Fan - with no way of reducing it, poor finish and in just about every respect is not a patch on my 3 Year Old Lenovo T61P with a Core 2 DUO - I am NOT exaggerating!

If this is Dell's idea of a performance machine I'm glad I don´t have to shoose them for my own purchases!

Forget Dell, if you don't want to go mad!
My experiences with an E6520: poor build quality, poor components (for example the touchpad, fingerprint reader), and the worst support in the world I've ever seen.
Though... It's true, I'm living in Eastern Europe...
