This is for which display? Dell (like other OEMs) uses several different brand for the E6400.

I did set it to my LG LED 1440x900. Still it looks washed out and I DO HAVE good comparison - Dell 2209WA E-IPS color rich monitor. Same wallpaper with girl (skin) looks really different on all TN compared to IPS. In other words I cannot objectively say that it is better/worse ... one thing to notice that on brightnes 80% colours are much, much better and degrade rapidly when brightness is lower than 50%...

1- No mater how you adjust your screen you cannot add the missing colors.
All TN panels are 6-bit colors, and not 8-bit or more colors. Also, all TN panel can't produce truelly vivid colors, where they are so vivid that a matte finish screen film doesn't make it washed out.

2- Doesn't mean you have a IPS or PVA panel that the colors are calibrated by default. The only monitor that comes true of being accurate (not perfect, but close) is a high-end CRT monitor. A high-end CRT monitor is what i would recommend for comparison, especial that back in the days, companies were focusing on best image reproduction, and not colors calibration that will look nice in store but ugly home, or at least not calibrated at all.

BTW, here is q PVA monitor default color calibration, to show what I mean:
    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_2408wfp.htm
(Simply scroll down to the color accuracy section. Note that I did not specifically took this model, and it's not these "worse case" to prove my point, its just a non-professional PVA panel I found, it could have been from any brand)

Ups, sure, it's LPL0140 (LG screen)

Luminance 120 (45%cca on the brightness slider)

If somebody wants different settings, I can setup this screen for it and send ICM profile. I have my notebook close to NEC MultiSync20WGX2 Pro and colors are now mutch closer like before.

    Trust this helps...

I found this color profile. Not for this display specifically, therefor the colors aren't perfect, (but doesn't screw them up completely), it makes the colors less washed out thought.

Yes, every IPS or PVA is calibrated. That doesn't mean they did a good job. Dell screens look VERY different after proper calibration, and i don't mean laptop screens but especially the high(er) end external monitors. You're right that CRT sreens used to be pretty much unrivalled but they're a thing of the past. A good H-IPS NEC screen or something similar gives the same results with decent calibration.....and they're a lot bigger than CRT screens :D

I just installed this as a new profile for color management on W7, but somehow I can't see any difference at all... am I doing something wrong?
