    16-bit colors?!
    What?!

I don't know if you know, but since early 90's, about every computer system that you can find and monitors, can output 32-bit colors (24-bit + alpha channel).

Also, your monitor refresh rate is in Hz, not Mega-Hertz. We can barely have a half decent 120Hz display today... and you go in the 60000 Hz.

Your monitor is (Dell 2001Fp), has the following specification:
    - Resolution: 1600 x 1200.
    - Refresh Rate: 60 Hz.
    - Total Colors: 32-bit
    - Colors per channel: 6-bit (8-bit with emulation (take 2 colors that the monitor can produce and switch between them in the hope to trick your eyes in seeing the missing colors.. technique used on all TN panels, up to this day)
    - Panel type: TN

Now, if you actually set the colors to 16-bit, that means Aero is not working. You are at Aero basic. OR you are using XP, and I'll shall hit you for it, for wasting your money on this lovely system that you can't even use fully. You should have gotten a good old Pentium M laptop if you were about to use XP, at least in percentage, XP uses more the system features and technology than your new computer.

    GoodBytes,

You were being helpful but I don't understand this last post of yours. It was unwarranted. I have been building and upgrading PCs since 1983...

I mistyped the 60 Hz. I've been looking at new CPUs so GHz was on my mind.

Yes, I know that the 4 Dell 2001FP monitors are 1600x1200, 60 Hz, 32-bit monitors.

You are WRONG about your opinions about my use on XP on this laptop. As I said above, this a new E6400 work laptop that I received. And the max colors that I can get out on two monitors is 16-bit (and even that looks like it might be difficult to keep permanently). You should be more careful before (unnecessarily) hitting...

    These are my systems specs:
    1. Custom built, Win 7 x64, Intel i7 920, 12GB RAM, MSI X58 Platinum m/b, 2 x 512MB GeForce 9800 GT graphics cards, 5 hard drives with about 3,000GB (including a primary SSD drive), 2 x Dell 21" monitors, 32-bit color
    2. [Work laptop] Win XP, Dell Latitude E6400, Intel Core Duo P88700 @2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, 156GB drive, E-Port replicator, 2 x Dell 21" monitors, 16-bit color

My apologies, I was not trying to be offensive. As I saw the "MHz" everywhere, I thought you were looking for that... so I was just making sure that was not the case. It is difficult over a forum to know someone.

I skipped the words "work laptop", I just read "laptop", sorry about that.

But, my opinion on XP on new systems still stands. I am sure we can agree to that, or at least to a certain extent. Anyway. that is a different topic.

I have a test computer here, with XP, I used to use it to test my software under XP (now I use virtual PC/XP Mode for most testing), I check and the monitor can go to 32-bit colors. If I set it to 16-bit, I lose the shadow on the icons, and ClearType disables itself.
