First I would check with the seller that it is 1440 x 900. WXGA is normally used to describe 1280 x 800 (or, more recently 1366 x 768).

I've not tried replacing my display but the full procedure is described here. It should be an easy swap because the E6400 is designed to work with a 1440 x 900 screen.

If you are replcing the screen (as i have done) you have to check a couple of things.

The lid for LED panels is different from CCFL panels. One won't fit in the other. My E6400 (from the outlet) was supposed to have a WLED WXGA panel. When i decided to upgrade i only ordered the panel itself as it was supposed to fit easily. Turns out there was actually a CCFL WXGA so i also had to get a lid AND bezel for the new screen. In the end i got those for free for all the hassle and waiting and the fact they gave me the wrong screen in the first place but it might save you some extra shipping costs and such if you can order all the right stugg in one go.

One thing to look for is that at the sides of the lid where the bezel and back-cover meet, the CCFL screen will have a slight bend in it near the top. The LED panel is completely straight along the whole seam.

edit: And yeah, make double sure about the actual resolution. The description is contradictive so no telling which is right, the part number or the WXGA.

Hey so I took apart my laptop and took out my display.

    dp/n oc384h.
I checked Dell Laptop 14.1 Screens - ITC Sales, there so many options, there I need to be particularly looking for in term of quality etc or they all pretty much the same?

Some of them say NO CABLE, do they mean cable that connects display to the back Bezel?

No you should look at the ones that are meant for the E6400 and there's only two of those listed. Sadly only the Samsung seems to be in stock which is the lesser of the two. The LG has better colour according to most people here.
If you already have a LED screen than you won't need anything else as the panel itself, you already have all the right cables/connectors.
Again, if you have a CCFL now you need the whole lid replaced.
