I saw this thread about replacing the GPU 'Thermal Pad' with a copper shim to reduce temps on a xps m1330.

Has anybody attempted to do this with the e6410?

I'd like to do this, I just need to figure out 3 things:

    1) Expected temperature reduction.
    2) Copper shim size.
    3) Copper shim supplier.

    Thoughts?

There's no need to do this on the E-series, the cooling system is better. My E6400 often idles with all temperatures around 110F (or lower during the winter).

I'm just trying to reduce the fan noise a bit. I was excessively compulsive about noise when I had my desktop PC. Even if I did the mod, I wonder if it would even make a fan noise difference.

FWIW, I have my laptop wired to a 5.1 Surround system and have a separate stereo in my office....as I type, my speakers are off and all I hear is the clicking of my keyboard...lol.
