    Hello,

I am getting a hand me down Dell D430 (Latitude) but it coming with a dead hard drive.

Can you all please help me ind a replacement hard drive, or suggest some possible alternatives for me to use in this laptop. I know it takes a 1.8in PATA/IDE hard drive but I am having trouble finding any.

If you can suggest with a link a good hard drive for me to use, that would begreat. Yes I would consider solid state as well.

    Thans!

Great if you want to merge this into that one that would b fine!

Still looking for linked suggestions though, I;m a total HD noob and dont know the difference between ZIF's PATA's etc. I think I need PATA.

As in the other thread, I'd strongly suggest an SSD if the rest of the machine is in full working order (I mean - if it's in a state that is commensurate with say an abuse-related death of the HDD, then it's not worth bothering with).

I used a 430 that I gave to my old IT guy the other day - he retrofitted it with an SSD, and it's like a new machine compared to how I remember it - which goes to show that between a slow processor and weak-sauce 1.8" rotating media, the latter holds back a modern OS much more.

As a few others have already said, upgrading to a SSD is your best bet...if it's not cost prohibitive. A 1.8" 4200rpm mechanical hard drive is the other option, but they're not easy to find.

Here are the only ones I could easily find-

    From Dell, a 60GB 4200rpm 1.8" drive for $109.99- LINK

From Ebay, same specs as above for $69.99- LINK

And again from the other thread and I have a SSD in it and it really made it a useable machine. Also depends on what you want to use it for since it isnt a power machine but more a large quicker netbook in my eyes
