    when booting up screen appears sort of normal (dull color) for about 3 seconds than goes blank and stays blank. any suggestions unit is about 4 years old.

    2.) Does it work fine when connected to an external monitor?

    Sounds like a bad inverter/backlight. As asked above, does it work with an external display?
