I have a friend who has a Dell Latitude D600, and his hard drive has failed it uses the primitive IDE interface, since it is an old laptop we are looking for a cheap solution. I have been looking for replacement hard drives but the IDE ones seem to be very expensive. If anyone has any type of remedy or source where I can buy a replacement IDE hard drive for cheap it would be much appreciated.

If you just want a small one they aren't that expensive... I'm pretty sure you can find 40GB and smaller drives on eBay for less than $30. If you want to buy something new (not used), big (160GB and above), and from a retailer, it's definitely going to be more than the SATA equivalent.

EDIT: Also, Thailand floods. Can't expect mechanical HDD prices to be great these days.
