I have a Dell Latitude D830 running Windows XP SP3. It is equipped with an Intel ProSet 3945ABG wireless card. Running latest drivers I could find from Dell, version 12.4.4.5 - Date 10/26/2009.

I am located less than 10 feet from my access point linearly. (It's directly under my living room floor in the basement.)

I am running WPA2 encryption on the network.
I am transmitting the SSID at the default interval.
I am running on channel 11. (Most people in the neighborhood are on 6 or 1.)

The computer constantly disconnects from the wireless network. It won't reconnect unless you put it in standby and then reconnect... Or I can reboot it to get it to reconnect...

Manually trying to connect to the network will not work.
Disabling the adapter and reenabling it will not work.

    What can I do?

This does not affect most other computers on the wireless network, my Apple laptop or a Nintendo Wii. Other computers on the network are running Broadcomm internal or Linksys PCMCIA cards...

The one other laptop that may have similar issues on the network is my Panasonic Toughbook that runs an Intel ProSet 2200BG card. It'll occasionally disconnect, but it will reconnect on its own.

I believe this issue is either the laptop itself or a problem with Intel chipset network adapters.

Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

does this happen on other networks too? We should first rule out that the router may have a defect. Many linksys routers do this ex: wrt610n, wrt160n etc. Please post your router model

Also I know you said the wii or apple laptop doesn't disconnect but plz try using this laptop on another network and see if the same problem occurs.

IMHO I think its cause you are getting interference from different electronic devices such as microwave or 2.4ghz cordless phones with digital spectrum. Maybe try using the -a channel 5ghz
