Yes I bought one for $100. It came with the charger and DVD-drive/docking station. CPU is the U9600, 3 GB RAM, 64 GB SSD, Windows XP, and back-lit keyboard.

I found it at a pawn shop yesterday.

Well well, lucky you. Any chance you'll sell it around that price range? Also is it in warranty or OOW? Check via the service tag.

Hah, no chance. I'll check the warranty. It's pretty cool. I like it as much as my Thinkpad X200 Tablet (but not more than). The e4200 display is gorgeous. Neutral, sharp, vivid. Howver, my Thinkpad still feels more solid and higher-quality.

Lucky you but don't bother checking the warranty.

Unless you know who the previous owner is, Dell is not going to honor the warranty. (they are the warranty police).

You'll need to know the name of the company/individual, mailing address, phone # etc in order to transfer any warrant to you or get any warranty service.

No problem. Pawn shops typically record the name and address of the people who pawn property.

Doesn't necessarily mean the person who pawn'ed it is the registered owner of the machine! :)

Have tried that countless times, it's a hit and miss.

Basically it's up to the tech who answers your call/chat to see how well they check it. If they don't care, or don't check carefully they'll let it slip.

I support several thousands of Dell Latitudes (and optiplex, precision, poweredge, powervault etc) and have been through this process countless # of times.

Unless you are 100% sure of the registered owner, there is no guaranteed way you'll get warranty transferred. I've even escalated support cases up to the VP of support and not gotten anywhere!
