The display on our E6500 fluctuates constantly from bright to dim. This does not happen when we have it in the docking station which has a monitor attached to it. Does this have anthing to do with the Ambient Light Sensor? I did go into it and changed the brightness a while back to highest setting, and today I went in and turned the Ambient Light Sensor off. Guess I will see what happens!

About ready to send this thing back for a refund, and try a different business type laptop! Guess I'm back searching again! This is my father's work computer, so he can keep an eye on us while he is out of town (then call and chew our butts)!!!

Your ambient light sensor was turned on. The Fn+Left Arrow key toggles it on and off.

hey thanks for the reply. After I found the light sensor in the (I guess system menu, F2 on start up) I thought that's what it might of been, so I went ahead and turned it off. I had no idea about the function key and the arrows though. I'm not sure if we have a book which should of come with the Latitude, as my father bought it through a guy that sells our estimating software. Maybe now he will be happy with this thing, but after I have now got my hands on it, I have found a sticker on the bottom saying "REFURBISHED". Chances are I bet he doesn't know this and thought he bought a new laptop. If so, he is going to hit the roof!

Thanks for that and confirming my guess on the light sensor.

Dell provides very little paper with its products but you can get the full documentation here.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the refurbished products provided they are from Dell and come with a full Dell warranty. Input the service tag into Dell's support site to find out the system configuration and warranty.

No, there's nothing wrong with refurbished products. It's just did he pay new price or refurbished price? That is going to be the question, cause I guarantee he thinks his "new" computers he purchased for our second shop were in fact brand new. I'll have to check into this come Monday!

I sat there last night playing with the ALS on this 6500, and sure enough, that was causing the issues he had with the screen. Personally I think this thing is working fine. It works a lot better than my old Dell!!!

This is the second post I have put up on the site, and quickly I have gotten replies, helpful replies. Just wanted to say thanks. Looks like I may have found a good site to continue coming to to learn, for help, and maybe one day help others!
