I recently installed the Panasonic Matsua UJ-242 blu ray burner into my M4500. It was a pretty simple install but I had to take the cover plate from the original DVD burner. Anyways the drive specs state that it is capable of reading BD-ROM at 4x and writing BD-Rs at 4x. I am only able to obtain read and write speeds of 2x.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? The drive was manufactured Sept 2010 and was Lenovo branded. Does it need a firmware update?

    Thanks for any help.

I suspect that the burner will only handle that media at 2x. I have plenty of 8x DVDs that my notebook will only burn at 4x (but there are some that it will burn at 8x). The challenge is to find out which media your burner likes best.

Thanks. That is a good point. I may have to do some trial and error to see what it likes.
