I have this exact same problem. Boots up white, non of the controls work (I used a 3rd party tool to dim the display, but you can tell it just masks it, as my mouse cursor is still super bright, name of the tool was http://www.dimxsoft.com/download/DLighterSetup.exe

My friend who owns a laptop shop said maybe the video bios doesn't support the correct output for led's. (i.e. as in the covet does, anyone have a covet video bios?). I noticed the led flex cable is called a covet cable.

Anyways, I've tried a lot of things, including a new covet cable.

The problem seems to be, the display doesn't turn off. It goes to a bright white screen.

I read on another forum that with tv's, when it starts white, means a transistor might have blown. This is a brand new led lcd I have have, a samsung.

what is the models of your screens that you bought, and what are the models of the screens that you removed?

i was looking to change to an RGB screen also. it could very well be that the screen you bought is too new for the system you have and the computer (graphics card) does not know how to use it. i have noticed revision numbers on the screens i can buy, ie LP171WU5 (TL)(B1) there is also A1, etc.

i was considering this option for my dell 1737 (which i think is like the M6400) but there is obviously some confusion surroundig this idea....

another possible problem, but it doesnt look it, is there are 8bit and 6bit screens (referring to colors).
    Charlie.
