Ok, so for the last few months I've been trying to acquire a 1080p screen for my e6510. I've asked around, looked around, and whatnot. Every single seller falls into two categories: operates out of 700 aldo ave, stana clara ca, or is OK with 1-5 dead pixels.

I've gone through 3 screens, all with dead pix, all with no dead pix guarantee. Each change takes around 2-3 weeks and costs about $13. I simply cannot get a screen without a dead pixel. of course, dell will not sell me this part.

Can I simply have someone with NBD support and a e6510 w/1080p screen request a new screen because of dead pixels, then put mine in the return box? I assume that all these screens go back to LG anyhow, and are 'refurbished' (i.e. sold to sunvalleytek then wind up in my damn laptop).

Simply? No. You've already lost much here just suggesting it.

oh well, not gonna lose sleep over thinkin outside the box. I'm sure it'd cross your mind if you went through this much crap over a lcd... especially when dell won't help out their customers (i.e. won't even charge me a ridiculously inflated price on an lcd for a laptop that has 3 yrs warranty left, under a company that does a whole lot of business with dell).

Well, no matter whether its Dell's fault for not supplying customers with LCD panels they request or not, what you asked for is cheating and probably illegal too ;)
I understand your frustration, but there is no way someone would reply here with "Yes, lets do it!"

    Well said.

Perhaps the best strategy is to search Dell Outlet for an E6510 with the right screen and then consider selling your current E6510.

If you've gone through enough replacements, you can request Dell replace the machine with a brand new one (since they seem to continue to fail with refurb parts). Been there once or twice myself.

Hes not getting faulty screen replaced by Dell, he is trying to upgrade his native screen with one that has higher resolution and that he buys from different retailers and not from Dell.
