Hey guys, so I'm trying to help out my friend overseas. The only information that I have right now is unfortunately vague, so I understand if no one can help until I know more.

She just bought a netbook a month or so ago, and today at first it wouldn't turn on, and when it did, it made a 'weird, frying, crackling noise', then turned on fine, and after using it for a little while, the screen went black for a moment. Right now (or, last I heard) it's working fine.

She is overseas in Europe, so I think she has to use a special power adapter, could that be causing an issue?

Again, sorry for being vague, but that's all I know right now. Thanks!

The AC adaptor will handle the mains power for just about anywhere on Earth. All it needs is an adaptor for the mains plug to fit the local socket.

The noises you mention do suggest a power issue. One test is to see whether there are any problems when running on battery without the AC adaptor connected.
