So, I did not burn Recovery disks right after I got my laptop (refurbished M4500) because I am an idiot. Is there a way to create recovery disks now? Dell's website talks about DataSafe Local software that should be installed on my computer. Well, it isn't. Maybe it did not come with it, maybe I uninstalled it at some point because I thought it was one of the bloatware that laptops come with, I'm not sure. I know, I know.
Is there a way to do anything about it? If my system crashes, I would like to have something.
Dell has a web page for ordering backup disks, but I heard somewhere it is not free, although the page itself does not say anything about the cost.

If it came with Windows 7, just download the Windows 7 disk image from the link below. Once you install Windows, activate it with the key located under the battery. You can find all the drivers for your laptop at Dell.com/support.

If you don't want to do that, you can always chat with a Dell rep online and they'll set you up with a disk set, but it'll cost you.

Well, I dug through the piles of old CDs and just found the disk that came with the laptop... apparently it is my Windows 7 reinstallation disk!
Thanks anyone for the input, I will use your recommendations if I manage to lose this disk again... which does not seem terribly unlikely :D

If you uninstalled Dell DataSafe Local Backup you can reinstall it as long as your recovery partition is in tact. The generic Dell disc only activates the base operating system and installs Windows 7, you do not get any of the original software. Only burning the recovery media will install all original content.
