There is a good chance I'll be buying a e6420 or e6520 from Dell Outlet sometime soon. I'm just wondering about SSD options. I want an SSD, 128gb minimum and I'd really like to stretch to a 256gb if I can afford it. I'll also be running a 500gb 5400rpm SATA in the media bay.

What is the performance like of the SSDs supplied by Dell?

I also need to look at cost. Can anyone advise what is a good-excellent SSD drive that is compatible with the e6420/e6520 machines that I could potentially swap in if I was to buy a machine from the outlet with a regular HD. What are the specifications to search when determining pricing? I'd be buying in the UK so I'm not sure after market SSDs are that much cheaper in any case.

Or are the pre-installed SSDs of poor enough quality to actively avoid them on outlet?

    Many thanks!

I can't tell you which ones to buy, however I can tell you that the aftermarket SSDs will possibly be faster and cheaper than Dell's at Point of Sale prices. However since you are buying from Outlet, it won't matter that much.

In Dells case, you are buying the warranty (usually next day air), not disk speed, or MLC/SLC.

Teh samsung drives that Dell uses are decent enough, but as mentioned above the price they charge is higher as it is for mist upgrades tha Dell sells.
