I am interested in getting the Dell Vostro 1015. I am curious if anyone has purchased it and has an opinion of it?

I will be using it soley for office work so I am very interested in how good the screen and battery life is.

It looks like it would be a very nice cost effective office machine. I haven't seen any reviews of it however.

I'm interested too... what differentiates it from the 1520? Pretty?

Looks like it might be a Vostro a860 but with a few cosmetic changes. Hopefully they fixed the keyboard flex and heat problems I read in a860 reviews.

The Vostro 1015 has a 16:9 display (15.6" 1366x768) much the same as almost every basic consumer laptop you'll find in stores. It also has a 'minimalist' design with black covering most of the exterior and a silver/metallic strip dividing it in the middle. It looks great, IMO. Vostro 1015 is offered in four different pre-configured models instead of being CTO (configure-to-order) like the 1520.

The Vostro 1520 retains a 16:10 (15.4" 1280x800 or 1440x900) display and has numerous configuration options including dedicated graphics, Blu-ray drive, high-end Core 2 Duo processors and fast 7200rpm or SSD drives. It also features a spill-resistant keyboard and a magnesium-reinforced base, which the 1015 doesn't seem to have.

The 1520 weighs about 0.5lbs more than the 1015, on average. They're both the same 1.0-1.5" thickness.

In terms of hardware, there's not much difference, except that with 1520, you may opt for dedicated Nvidia Graphics Processing Unit, as well as C2D Pxxx processors, and older/current generation 16:10 screen.
While 1015 are mostly PTO- Pre-built/Pre-Configured To Order, without further available choice to upgrade on hardwares, except for O.S and warranty.

1015 may have a winning edge in drawing corporate attention as there is simplest and cheapest configuration with standard other hardware such as integrated graphic card and small sized HDD, in comparison to 1520 maybe priced US$50 lower or more...

Cosmetically, 1015 is more bulky and roundy compares to 1520 slim design and edgy corporate image.
