Dell Vostro 1400 hangs when booting from XP CD

    I'm trying to format this Vostro 1400 for my friend, and its giving issues. Basically its locks up at the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt, and I know this CD is good because I just used it yesterday to reinstall on a different system.

    This is not an AHCI or ATA issue as I haven't even managed to get that far into the install where it tries to detect the hardware.

    I am pretty sure the disc drive isn't failing since not only was it able to read the disc, I was able to burn a backup disc just before trying to run the XP disc.

    It was bios version A06 the first attempt, then I upgraded to A09 and it still fails, so I'm pretty sure its not a bios issue.

    Ugh oh well, I'm going through the effort of downloading a Dell OEM disc just for this one computer, I guess I'll have to charge him extra :D

    Edit: And it works with the OEM disc, which is really odd, there shouldnt be any difference between these two discs at boot time, not until drivers are loading. Maybe its some broken hardware detection scheme that Dell has going on
