    is the dell vostro 1400 graphic card (8400m gs) covered by the heatsink i wanna knoe if i can apply thermal paste to it.

    The GPU on a Vostro 1400 is connected to a heatsink directly behind the fan: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1420/en/SM/fan.htm#wp1106486. Nonetheless, the gap between the GPU and the heatsink is probably too big for thermal paste, hence the evident use of a thermal pad. So in short, no, you probably cannot effectively use thermal paste on the GPU without something like a copper mod.
