Hi. I've got a 2007 model Dell Vostro 1500 with a 8600m gt graphics card. The display is only 1280x800. Now what I want to do is use another montitor with the laptop. I was thinking of getting a 17inch widescreen LCD. Now what I'm wondering is will the laptop be able to power the LCD widescreen at 1440 x 900 as well as the laptop display at 1280x800?

Can you have different resolutions on different screens?

    Cheers.

You can set your internal display to 1280 x 800, and your external display to 1440 x 900. You may have to set it manually, though.

Display Settings > Properties... where you'd usually adjust screen resolution, etc.

    a northern boy,
If your willing to spend the money you can get a new laptop monitor for a good price on eBay. I upgraded mine to WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050. It makes a big difference form 1280 x 800. It allows you to see more of the desktop. Also the monitor is very easy to change.
