Dell Vostro 1500... Need help with Parts!!

So a friend of mine has referred to me a customer. This customer has a Vostro 1500 with wxga resolution (I can tell) and recently, he had his notebook in a bag and when he took it out, there was a crack on the bottom right of the screen. Now when I just looked at the screen, there is purple which is usual when screens are cracked, and then there was a part of the screen in which it was white, and when you press down on it, nothing happens, as opposed to pressing down on a part of a screen and colors appear.

Does this computer just need an LCD replacement like this:

Is the inverter really necessary?

His screen is cracked and purple... I need to order a screen off of ebay.
