I am looking to upgrade my Vostro 1500 from a T5270 to a T6400. Does anyone know if this processor is fully compatible with the Vostro? It does have a Socket P setting. The T8*** and T9*** all have the Socket P. The T64** came out after the 8's and 9's. I would appreciate any help. I don't want to go extreme with it and spend an arm and leg but just get a little boost. Also I know the T6400 will run cooler and use less battery.

    Thanks,
    Jason

The T6400 will work in the Vostro 1500. Just make sure you have the latest BIOS, etc.

Post your benchmarks when you're done please. It would be interesting to see what kind of performance boost you're getting.

OK will try to get that up for you when I get it installed. I don't expect an enormous boost, but it is going to run cooler and increase battery life which is my main concern.

Ok I used the program "Prime Benchmark" that tests only the processor. I don't know how accurate it is, but these are the numbers it gave me for each processor.
    Core 2 Duo T5270 1.4Ghz: 4574
    Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0Ghz: 17275

Again I don't know how accurate this is, but looks like its a significance.

Well, since it seems no-one(?) knows what those numbers really mean, this doesn't tell us much. Why not try PC Wizard 2010 http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php. Thanks.

    Intel Core 2 Duo T6400
OK downloaded and installed that program mentioned. Here are the scores
    (CPU test only)
CPUIDMark Mips x86-32 integer: 22580 marks
CPUIDMark Mflops Single precision x86-32 float: 24734
CPUIDMark Mflops Double precision x86-32 float: 12369
    CPUIDMark Mandelbrot Parallelized x86-32: 20934
    CPUIDMark Processor: 20155

Again I don't know what all this means but OppfinnarJocke wanted me download and run this. I didn't run overall but just the processor. I didn't care about the grapics or anything else. I was not able to test the T5270 because I have already replaced my processor and ran it on that program.
The processor overall runs cooler and is more responsive. The clock multiplier is 10x vs the T5270 was 7x. Hope this helps anyone interested in this processor.

    Thanks a lot.
I'll run it on my Vostro 1510 (with T5870), that will allow some comparison.

Let me know how it compares. My processor was one of the latest T processors to come out. This one is working really well for me and is performing as I expected it to.
