dell vostro 1700 fan problem

    ok so i went to the extent of buying a new fan (tested), and a new motherboard for my dell vostro 1700. and during boot the fan doesnt turn on. ne ideas whats wrong???

    Does the fan run when you load/heat the machine? Or if you manually try to spin it up with i8kfangui? I don't think it's supposed to run during boot if the machine is hot enough.

    lol it just shuts down in 20 mins due to over heating, and cpu fans do turn on the moment u boot the computer, give it a try on your own computer haha.

    Yes, on my HP it does, no, on my Dell it doesn't.

    So it doesn't spin up due to heat... does it spin up with i8kfangui?

    also laptop has a virus and it cant boot into windows, no way to format it with it shutting down from overheating

    does i8kfangui work with a vostro 1700??

    i8kfangui should work with any Dell with up to a 965 chipset... which should include the Vostro 1700.

    That being said, it sounds like it's probably a hardware issue... if your motherboard came with any sort of warranty, you should invoke it and get a replacement. I doubt it's the fan that's broken (though it is indeed a possibility).

    i ran 6v into the fan and it works fine, i just remembered im boring my friends laptop so im going to put my hd into it, format and put that ik8fangui on and see how it goes. this is a new mb that i just ordered haha. might be doa idk

    I have a Dell Vostro 1500 and my fan does not come on until possibly 2 hours after the computer has been running. That is just chatting, checking email, and web browsing. I had to change out my motherboard due to overheating. But if it is shutting down then there's a problem.
