    Hey there.

I got a new Dell Vostro 3550 laptop a couple of months ago (1366x768 15.6 Panel) and stepped on the screen while it was on the floor (Don't ask how) and had to get the screen replaced.

After much hassle and waiting, the Dell engineer came out and replaced the screen with a glossy Samsung screen. It seemed to work fine, but I shortly found out that rather randomly, the screen would display this pink and white lightshow.

The screen starts out pink and fades into white and you can just about see what is going on in the desktop behind it, but the framerate is terrible. The screen then becomes black and gets deeper until you can't see anything.

All that needs to be done is to shut the laptop screen, open it again and everything is fine. This makes me think that maybe a reset of the video drivers is required each time (Video card is AMD Radeon 6630m, with built in Intel Graphics 3000 on the chip. I haven't tried to see if the same problem occurs on the different video cards because it takes a long time to happen). There is no pattern to these screen glitches, they may come very often, or not so often and it doesn't seem to depend on what I'm doing for it to happen.

Could someone suggest what may be wrong with the screen? I will try to get a video of what is going on, but the old one I had got deleted somewhere along the line. I haven't found a way to provoke this happening and no amount of pressing along the chassis in any places seems to stop the problem.

As an extra note, I've connected it to an external display before, without shutting the lid while the laptop is having the screen problem and you can access the desktop fine.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, if so, please move it.

    Thanks!

    - Ross

I don't want to do that, as the screen was replaced by the engineer that weren't under circumstances of warranty. The guy works privately, but also works for dell. There was no accidental damage on the laptop, so I can't go to Dell.
