Does anyone know if there is ever a chance that the motherboard BIOS for the Vostro 3750 could be updated to unlock the ability to add more than 8GB of RAM to the system, say, like 12GB total?

The official spec is 8GB, but you can probably do more than 8GB anyway. Due to whatever reason, Dell never seems to support a chipset/IMC's official maximum memory, but people have generally been able to get close (ie 6GBs in Inspiron 1x20s, 8GB in M1530, etc).

I'd bet 12GB would work anyway, but no guarantees I guess.

Is there any way I can find that out, or if I got one and tried putting more RAM in there, would there be any other type of modification, BIOS or otherwise I may have to do to get that to work?

RAM should be pretty much plug and play - so try it and if it doesn't work then you know :)

I usually do a memory test after I install RAM just to be sure its stable and working properly.

I just don't want to get a machine, buy 12GB worth of RAM, try it and then find out it doesn't work. I would then be left with some RAM that I can't take back for a refund and a laptop that can not take more than 8GB of RAM.

It's no biggie I guess, I like this system as well as a few others, but I would like more than 8GB of RAM for sure, so I may have to move in a different direction.

    Thanks guys.

I was under the impression that you had it already - oops :)

Anyway, I hear your issue and delima. You always have the 21 days return period to find out or maybe find someone with that model to test it out.

Yeah, I was hoping that someone on here would have one that could maybe tell me. Anyone?
