Right everyone, after much searching and screaming and tearing my hair out, ive managed to get the dell 5530 wwan to work on a vostro v13 with windows 7 32-bit.

this guide is mostly for those who have downloaded countless number of drivers, and been told error 23000 - this is not for your device.

also, this mostly uses the driver for some reason listed as dell 5540 but this works perfectly as screenshots will show.

For some reason the dell vostro v13's bios is locked, so my option gtm378 wouldnt work. i also had huge trouble finding my wireless router but in the end it worked after countless restarts and tweaking here and there. I tried installing an intel 4965agn into that pci-e slot, but again, bios is locked so the laptop wouldnt boot.

there is no need to install the dell wireless manager, connection point controller or sony ericsson wireless manager. Windows will manage this itself.

    Anyway here we are:

    0. Make sure the dell wwan is installed in your pci-e slot, and that the sim card is in place Download the file as linked, its too big to be linked to the forum.

    Dell 5530 Wwan Windows 7 32-bit Drivers
(Feel free to upload to other hosts, unfortunately i cant upload to either megaupload or rapidshare).

    1. Uninstall all drivers related to to the Dell 5530 wwan card. if you uninstall the one under the universal serial bus controllers, it will uninstall it all.

    2. Restart your computer. windows will try to install drivers, but will be unable to do so (at least in my case) as it wont find any compatible files.

your laptop should now have about 4-5 yellow exclamation marks in the device manager (I dont have a picture of this as im only doing this guide after having installed the drivers, and im taking no chances of messing this up).

    3. install one by one by right clicking each one in the device manager and dont install automatically, i will find the files locally myself.

    4. Point that to the folder where you have extracted the drivers, and it will find them, even if they are in subfolders.

    5. Restart your Pc.

    6. The device manager should now look like this::

    7. Now check your Connection Manager:
Right Click your wireless icon in your taskbar, selecting Open Network and Sharing Center.

    8. This should be visible then

    9. Right click whatever your connection is (mine is 3) and select properties

    10. Go to advanced tab and insert your apn settings

    11. Press connect and enjoy :)

I managed to get to point 9 (not bad, thanks!) but I got stuck there. I have a Vodafone prepay USB dongle and its SIM card inside the V13's slot. After setting the APN when I try connecting I get the "Unable to Connect, Connection Failed" window.

I have tried installing the Vodafone Mobile Connection software first from the USB dongle (doesn't recognise the 5530) and then from the Vodafone downloads, same. Dell Wireless Manager does not see the card either.

Has anyone managed to setup the 5530 in the Vostro V13 with Vodafone SIM card (from the prepay USB dongle)?

I haven't slept much last night but I am making progress. The latest full Vodafone Mobile Connection (VMC) program recognises the 5530 but then the error message was that the SIM card is missing. It turnes out after digging in Google that the Vostro V13 has to be fully powered down even the battery ribbon cable disconnected and then restarted, otherwise the SIM card is not recognised. So now VMC shows that there is a 3G+ connection and I can dial but now it stops with a RAS error 734. The solutions I found on the interweb don't seem to work. At least I know that the 5530 and the SIM card reader hardware are working OK. The dial-up connection in Win7 is what needs sorting out now.

I have a Mint Linux 8 (Helena) on the same V13 and I can get online with the 5530 but the full power off was needed for this to work.

So RAS error 734 in Windows 7 is the next riddle to solve.

i had the error 734. it means it is dialling wrongly or a wrong number.

what id advise you to do is to re-do the whole thing, and try not to install the VMC.

make sure you have credit on the sim and that the sim legitimately works and then make sure the apn you enter is proper to the sim.

In Linux the APN of the working mobile broadband connection was not internet so in Windows 7 in point 10 above I've changed the APN to pp.internet and username/password blank. Unistalled VMC and the connection works :)

I can get my balance and top up through the Vodafone website.

    Problem solved.

I have finally gotten my 5530 card to work with windows 7 64-bit! I used the 5540 drivers as well...
However I am having another issue, the card will connect without any problems, but it will only connect to the GPRS network! It won't ever connect me to the WCDMA network. Does anyone know where to find an option to force the card to connect to the WCDMA instead of the GPRS? Thanks.
