*** can a mod please move this to the latitude sub section? thanks

As a follow up of the previous thread, I got my warranty transferred and I asked for a replacement for my broken e4300. They told me I would be contacted on Friday for details about the replacement system, and it would take 14-21 biz days.

Today un unexpected package shows up and it's an e6410, with my big surprise.

Now after almost 2 hours, yes 2 hours!, chat with a dell rep, he tells me that they don't have any 4300 left and then he agreed to send an e4310 instead.

I told him that the outlet is full of e4300 and I want one replaced with one of those and he said it's not possible.

Now I don't know what to do. I am not crazy about the e4310 because it's slightly bigger, heavier and it comes only with the 16:9 screen which I don't like at all.

what should I do? protest more and try to get one from the outlet?

can anybody suggest something, I have never been in this situation with dell before.

    thanks

Why don't you just sell the E6410 and get another E4300?

Though I think you could try to push for an outlet E4300... I got a D630 replaced with an E6410 and it was a refurb, so they're definitely not against sending those out.

and right now I have two more years of Complete Care, so if I get an e4310 and it breaks I could potentially get an e4320 in two years from now.
    just saying...

I don't understand... do you want an E4310 or E4300?

I want an e4300 for the above reasons. I am just confused on what to do now. I think selling this e6410 might be a good idea if I can sell for the right price.
Worst case if I get an e4310 I can always sell that one.

I think an E4310 is worth more than an E6410 at the moment... so if you want to see and buy, you should get one of those. Plus if you sell and buy, you can probably get a cheap E4300 from the Outlet which'll have the full three years warranty.

you are totally right, it wouldn't make sense to get an e4300 when I can get an e4310 or keep this e6410 and sell it.
but it seems that the used prices between the two are almost the same, at least from ebay. I don't know why because the e4310 is more expensive.

In all honesty you're better off keeping the laptop and waiting for it to break and then getting replacements. I started with an inspiron e1505, got an XPS m1710, XPS M1730, Alienware M17x, then an M17x-r2, and now i'm on my 2nd Alienware m17x-r2 which is currently in production. Only been 4 years and i just renewed my warranty about a month and a half ago. you can end up with just a never ending line of computers for the cost of one.

i don't think it would always work, but also warranty expired and i believe you can't extend it for more than 4 years, and complete care costs, so in the end it might not be that much cheaper.
better to sell the laptop before the warranty expired and reinvest in a new one, otherwise you might end up with a new laptop but no warranty.

your choice. i usually sell after 1-2 years.
