Thanks for looking this up for me... I appreciate it. It it a shame that DELL locks out all of their installers for certain families/model groups, as this should have NOTHING to do with hardware. Unfortunately, I don't think this solution applies to my issue.

I have decompiled the 5600 driver folder too, but its installer is much more coy... Has errors built-in if the individual installers are run out of order, or are not executed by the installer with the model check... In addition, the individual installers require one another, so this has really gooed-up my Device Manager history... I wish this was from Novatel, Sierra, Option or another well-known OEM supplier so that I could try to find a direct driver.

I wish there were some ways to get a native Gobi driver from Qualcomm, but after talking with a Qualcomm rep we have contact with at the office (I'm in R&D for a large technolgy company myself) I was informed as to why this is not the case.

The Gobi chipset, like most other Qualcomm technologies, is only a chipset for other manufacturers to build upon. I need to figure out who the manufacturer of the DELL 5600 card is to take advantage of any non-DELL drivers. I'm on the hunt now...

    Hello guys,

Do you have any update on making this card work in you system?
I am tempted to buy one for my Inspiron 1520 and I wanted to know if you've managed to make it work, or you've swapped the card for one from another laptop manufacturer.

    Thanks in advance,
    Tony

No and No... There are currently no known drivers that exist outside of the Latitude E series, and E-Series-based Precision Mobile workstations.

I am working with a Latitude E6400 laptop that has the Dell Mobile Broadband 5600 chip installed on it. When I go to Dell's support web site, all i see is the firmware, no driver...

    What gives?

I install the firmware and of course it doesn't do anything.

I contact Dell support and they make me download this 577MB (yes, Five Hundred Seventy Seven Megabyte) file that I "need" to get this card to work. This program/driver was conveniently enough not shipped with my laptop. I am still in the process of downloading this random file which I never found on their website. If I need a piece of software this huge to be able to use my air card, then I think this may be evidence that world is coming to an end.

Anyone had any better experience then me or can point how something I missed?

    Thanks!

    Boogy

What you're being asked to download is the ControlPoint Connection Manager software. This is a huge (577MB huge), but valid step.

This will give you a plugin in the CP software to use as your connection broker to ATT, Sprint, or Verizon networks.

The Firmware is also needed to set up the 5600 card. Install the ControlPoint software, reboot, your card will be detected, then run the firmware installer.

It should work for you - On my D series, I gave up and sent the card back to DELL. You shouldn't have my problem though, since you've got the E series machine its looking for. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Is this issue concerning the D630 now a dead issue, as Dell now has a 5600 card for the Latitude D630 part numbers...Manufacturer Part# : J029P | Dell Part# : 313-7847
