I'm very conflicted as to whether to role the dice ordering a 15" WXGA+ LED or the WUXGA.

One the one had WUXGA maybe crazy small on a 15". Wish I would see one somewhere. On the other hand WUXGA's 75% color gamut seams much more appealing.

Conversly, the WXGA's LED has a lower power draw and is supposed to be brighter.

Gah ...someone decide for me please ....I just can't do it.

If you've got intel graphics, right click desktop -> Graphics Properties -> Display Settings ->Power Settings -> Disable Power Savings

This 100% fixed the flickering for me.

WUXGA is insanely small on a 15.4" (but then again I even think 1680x1050 is a bit too small on a 15.4"). You can increase font size/dpi but I've been experimenting with this and a lot of web pages get screwed up if you do this. I'm also fairly sure the WXGA+ LED in the e6500 is vastly different from the WXGA+ 14.1" LED in the e6400 that people have been complaining about.

Mine is an LG, the picture is stunningly wonderful. The only thing I'm working out right is getting the fonts worked out. Kind of small out of the box, adjusted to 120 DPI, trying to get Firefox adjusted up, other than that I'm happy so far, except for the sound of course.

It's most likely the extended battery life options in the Dell ControlPoint. There are two which affect the display: One drops the color to 16 bit and the other drops the refresh frequency to 40Hz. It's the latter which causes the flicker. I can see it as well with my LG screen. Different people are more / less sensitive to the monitor flicker.

I've also found that the system sometimes doesn't restore the right display settings when returning to mains power.

Give the addon 'No Squint' a try. Works perfect.

Yes, I´ve got an intel graphis and you´re right. :)

I didn´t know that the intel graphics card has power settings, too

The refresh frequency I´ve already set to 60Hz but I´m surprised of all these power save settings

Every little bit counts when trying to stretch the battery life. Find out which options cause you problems and leave the rest enabled.

Do you know if Dell will give you the LPL0140 if you specificly ask for it?
