Latest Vostro have the HM67 chipset which should support SATA 3.

SATA III has a maximum speed of 6 Gb/s.

Reverting to your original question, while the intel chipset supports SATA III, we cannot be sure that the Vostro BIOS allows this speed to be used until it is verfied by a user.

There is no such thing as SATA 6.0 or SATA 6. At least not yet!

The confusion is caused by the fact that there are two common ways to reference SATA revisions: by revision numbers and by their corresponding speeds (transfer rates) measured in Gigabits per second. As of now there are three SATA revisions: 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. The transfer rates are: 1.5 Gb/s, 3 Gb/s and 6 Gb/s respectively.

The latest revision of SATA is 3.0 and is commonly referred to as SATA 3, SATA III, or SATA 6 Gb/s.

The previos version is SATA 2, or SATA 2.0 a.k.a. SATA 3 Gb/s.

The preferred way of referencing the SATA revision is by its transfer rate, just make sure to add "Gb/s" after the number to eliminate any confusion.

Cool. I just ordered a crucial M4 256Gb SSD. Sounds like the laptop will be able to take everything this drive has. Thanks for the help folks.
