After the installation of Dell's latest BIOS version (A16, then A18), my fan is on most of the time, and comes on most when the machine is idle. (It runs near full all night long.)

Does anyone know where to get BIOS A15 (the last version I had before the fan thing started), and how to downgrade the BIOS?

A15 Bios can be found here: http://support.us.dell.com/support/...eleaseid=R231592&c=us&l=en&cs=RC1159896&s=biz

I'm still using A03 waiting until a new BIOS that gets nothing but positive reviews... I guess I figure, if it ain't broke - don't fix it. :)

i can confirm these findings. i did not have much time with A16, so i cant comment on that, but i find A15 was relatively cool and silent, where else A18 is cooler but fan is on more, and seems to kick into the highest RPM mode more often.

i'll report back after more testing.

oh, and i'm gonna be cheeky and plug my IdeaStorm posting.

would be great, cos i'd like A18 behaviour during the day, and A15 behaviour during the night when i want it quiet. Vote for it~!
