    Hey,

I often use my laptop on AC and remove my 9 cell battery. The only problem is that removing the battery leaves the motherboard somewhat exposed to the elements.

Is there anywhere I can buy a plastic "dummy" battery to fill up the space?

    Thanks

Why would you remove the battery? There's no reason to do it unless you're actually swapping batteries.

The battery doesn't drain or overcharge while you're on AC due to the complex circuits on it.

You could buy a cheap battery from ebay and take the cells out.
Then you would be left with an empty shell.

Removing the battery saves weight and makes it so i can fit the laptop into my backpack's pouch. (The 9cell battery sticks out too much). Alternatively if I could find a sleeve that will properly fit the m4400 with 9cell, that might work too.

The heat will shorten the battery's lifespan.

The best way to store this battery would be to put it in the fridge at ~60% charge and never let the charge go under the 15% mark when in use (except for when running the laptop from 100% till empty once every few months to keep your operating system's estimated runtime notification accurate).

the battery on the m4400 dosent really seem to heat up that much . it seems to be fairly well positioned, so i dont bother taking it out.

...also unless you have disabled charging on the M4400 (not sure it is an option there, it is on the M6400 ...) just running off of PSU and leaving the battery in will bork the battery inside of 18months - even if you never use the battery - as it will drain naturally by itself and then get topped up..over and over and over...

...and over and over and over and over and borked. Yes, it can be disabled on the M4400. :)

I disable the charging on my M6400 (as well as disable the Dell Fast Charge) as I run it docked most of the time - and I am shocked as to how quickly this pretty new battery discharges. Within a week it is down to 60%. I charge it once a week - which is better than the daily charge it would get being docked all day.
