Here is something I have always wondered. Why does DELL use the DVI-D (Digital only) ports on it's laptop replicators instead of the more universialy accepted DVI-I ports? The DVI-D ports only accept a DVI cable for a monitor, it lacks the 4 pins of the DVI-I port that are needed for the many DVI to VGA adapters out there.

The Optiplex DVI paddle card ports are like this as well.

Everyone else in the industry seems to be okay with providing DVI-I ports, why would dell use the much less used DVI-D ports.

You should not VGA with an LCD monitor. Else use the laptop VGA port.
VGA will be discontinued in 2015. Transition is already passing from VGA to DVI.

Display Port is slowly replacing DVI and as we speak.
