I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the E-View stand and/or port replicator. I use my E6500 with an external monitor in an extended desktop and would like a hot dock/undockable setup, and the stand and replicator sound like they would work well for this purpose. Thanks in advance.

I use the pport replicator and it serves it's purpose (no need to disconnect/reconnect video/usb connections every time I work at my desk).

I have the advanced port replicator. the only thing I am missing is the lack of another expresscard slot for additional expansion cards. It comes equipped with displayports, DVI en HDMI as far as it goes for video. I really like the dock (and an additional LCD) combined with the E4200.

Thanks for the thoughts. The Dell forums have a lot of people who write in about problems with hotdocking and undocking, like freezing and having to suspend or shutdown before docking or undocking. Do you guys have any problems with this at all or is it as simple as pulling the computer out?

I haven't had any troubles with my E-Port Plus **knock on wood**. I love it! I also have the E-View stand... don't really use it though. Only got it because I had a 50% off coupon for my order and it was kind of an impulse lol.

With the old D-Dock and older BIOS revisions, you had to suspend or shutdown before docking or undocking... but with newer BIOS revisions, all you had to do was press the little undock button.

They seem to have dispensed with that button altogether with the E-Dock(s), at least with an E6400 and XP, I don't need to do anything fancy to dock or undock. My only beef with the dock is that the fans seem to run longer and more often on a docked machine.

Appreciate all of your comments. I picked up a port replicator today; I'll see whether I can use it with my second monitor propped up on some books. If that fails, I'll probably pick up the E-View stand.

By the way, has anyone figured a solution for this problem? I run extended desktop when my laptop is on the desk, with gadgets and browser on the external monitor. If I disconnect the monitor before closing gadgets and browser, they get pushed onto the primary screen, and don't go back to the extended monitor when I reconnect. Can I save the position of the gadgets so they disappear when I disconnect the external and return when I reconnect?

The way I've been getting around this is to close gadgets and windows on the external monitor, then disconnect. When I reconnect and reopen these applications, the windows appear in the extended monitor.
