I am trying to decide between the Latitude E5420 and E5520 and the main contention point is the screen resolution.

I currently use a 19" widescreen monitor with a resolution of 1440x900 and I find it just right. I think if it were higher I would find it very difficult.

My concern is that if I take the E5520 with 1920x1080 ― the text will be too small. I understand I can use font scaling but won't that affect how windows and controls (like text boxes and buttons) are rendered?

Therefore I am considering the E5420, that has a resolution of 1600x900. Does anybody own the E5420 who can chime in on how the screen is in terms of quality? Also if anybody can answer if 900p on 14" is more comfortable than 1080p on 15"?

Also are there any differences between the E5520 and E5420 that I should be worried about? Especially build quality or features?

The 900p screen on the E5420 is great. I don't own one, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :) J/K, the E5420 is one of the models I buy for my company's mobile users, and they love the thing. i always get the 900p screen for them. I had one person find it uncomfortable, and we had to tweak the font size for him (the panel will NOT allow itself to be set at a 720p resolution).

The E5520 has a numeric keypad, but other than that and the screen they're very similar: just two versions of the same basic design, as are most 14/15 inch bretheren.

Windows 7 does handle font scaling a lot better than XP ever did. But I suggest you have a look at a 1080p screen somewhere in person before deciding.
