I'm customizing a Latitude E5420 and I wanted to know if swapping out the RAM and upgrading to an SSD manually will void my warranty. It costs less to upgrade myself so I am going to try and do it, but I still want my warranty.

    Please let me know :D

No, in fact, even swapping out the CPU (for example) won't void your warranty as long as you keep the original and as long as you don't break anything in the process.

Also, make sure you get the 1600x900 display upgrade.

Replacing CRU (customer replaceable units) will not void warranty if installed properly. But of course when you RMA to Dell and they find out the parts you changed was defective, they can charge you an out of warranty labor rate.

Increasing RAM and upgrading the HD to an SSD will not void your warrantee... Dell of course will not cover the upgraded components...

Don't be a dochebag(filtered) and install a CPU with a TDP larger than the system was designed to support and then call Dell for a replacement motherboard when you have a meltdown... Many people in this forum support a large number of systems and appreciete how amazingly Dell handles business customers. Honestly, if you are buying a E5xxx you should be in another forum as the E64xx/E65xx are on different level than the E5xxx plastic garbage.

    Alright, Thank you :D

I respect your opinion on the notebook that I will be buying, but i'm 14 years old and not a businessman who needs the best laptop in the world. I just need a matte 1600 x 900 screen for coding. I wouldn't install a new CPU because I don't need a better CPU, I just need an SSD and more RAM.

Also, I noticed in another thread of yours that Minecraft is one of your requirements. Minecraft and Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics don't go very well together. You might want to consider:
    - Getting the E6420 with the NVS 4200M GPU.
    - Waiting for the Samsung Series 7 (the 14" model)

How long would the wait be for the Samsung Series 7? Would I get a matte screen? :0 What is the GPU?
I have a small budget, but if it's a really good laptop then I can maybe convince my father to put a little more money into it.
