e6220 vs e6320

Does anyone have some first-hand feedback on either of these models? They have the same screen resolution, so does it really just comes down to preferences on overall size/weight?

How does the build quality and keyboard layout compare? I'm a bit nervous going down to a 12.5" screen, but the tradeoff in weight from 14" to 13." isn't all that significant.

Any thoughts?

 

You might want to go ahead and consider a Lenovo Thinkpad X220, with the IPS LCD upgrade (branded 'Premium' on the upgrade page, be sure you get this upgrade).

Same resolution, much better screen quality (IPS), and significantly cheaper.

 

I have an E6320 which I purchased about 4 or 5 months ago. I have been quite happy with it. I consider the build quality to be excellent and the size to be perfect for my needs. I use it both as a desktop replacement and travel machine and find the size to be a good compromise.

I have no experience with the E6220, however, I would recommend that you peruse the Lenovo forum here at Notebooksreview.com for all comments/issues with the X220 before making any decision.

Thanks. Prices for the x6220 through the Dell Outlet are in the $700-$800 range with a 3-year warranty. Unfortunately, I can't get anywhere near that for an x220 with an IPS screen. Need to buy 2 units for a small business and am really trying to stretch the budget as far as I can.

Are you kidding with him? The difference between E6220 and Thinkpad x220 like between China and German BMW.

 

Not sure what you're getting at. I'm well aware of the difference in build quality, but for the price point the X220 doesn't look like it's going to work for us.

 

I have bought and used serveral E6320s and am writing this on a fully specc'd out E6220 that was delivered about a week ago.

Both have the same resolution, and without having them next to each other you really don't notice much difference at all in screen size. The lack of optical drive makes the E6220 slightly slimmer and lighter, but it's no subnotebook. The keyboards feel identcal, but from memory I believe you get a trackpoint with the E6320 that you don't with the E6220.

Build quality of both is superb - I've heard a few negatives on here about the new E6x20 range, but having bought and deployed over 40 of them (every model in the range at this point) I think they are excellent. They look and feel like a much more expensive piece of kit than the E6x10 range and several users have commented to the same effect.

I'd say you won't notice the screen size difference and the resolutions are the same, build is identical and the keyboards are equally good - I think they may even be the same size. Only real deciding factor should be your requirement for an optical drive. Remember you can swap out the optical drive for a battery pack too. Combined with the extended battery and the slice battery you can get really astonishing battery life.

I also suggest getting the 3 and 6 cell batteries for the E6220, sometimes when you want to travel light the extended battery sticking out of the back is an annoyance.

Whichever you get, you *want* an SSD. I'd rather have the slowest CPU and an SSD than the fastest and a mechanical drive.
