    hi there,

    E6400 with Vista Business 32bit

does anyone could give me a hand on this problem?

i set up fingerprint preboot login and it was fine.

but whenever i resume the laptop from standby/sleep mode
it will first load the preboot manager
and i used my fingerprint to login and it was fine too,
but when it enter the windows login screen,
the system cannot automatically login to windows,
i tried to use fingerprint, it didn't response
i tried password and click enter or the "arrow" button, it also didn't response.

    any ideas??

everytime i have to restart again.

I have had this same problem, can't figure it out. My wife has EXACT same computer with same specs, but she hasn't configured her fingerprint reader and she does not have these problems...ever. Mine does this probably 50% of the time. Seems to be definitely related to the fingerprint reader. Most of the time mine gets stuck and the windows welcome screen with the swirling circle that never stops swirling and then have to reboot and then it normally works fine. Once I had to reboot twice. Maybe there will be new firmware for the fingerprint reader software soon.

The fixes listed for the A05 BIOS might be relevant. However, that BIOS update is no longer listed as a download.

Did you also try installing the latest version of the security management software?

I have E6500 with XP, I have similar problem, it doesn't happen every time, sometimes fingerprint reader is not shown as "device opened", if I try to log on with password instead the embassy login dialog stops responding and I never get logged on, machine itself is not hung it still responds to USB plug/unplug, mouse, caps-lock events.

I have the system set to bypass the preboot password/fingerprint on reboot/resume.

I already have the A05 BIOS.

Another thought: The Dell extended battery life configuration includes the option to power down the security devices. Make sure that option is disabled.
