I am currently using the latest Dell driver release for the ALPS touchpad (version 7.1207.101.108).

For soem reason, I cannot seem to get this touchpad to respond properly.

Ive heard that drivers from other manufacturers could possibly do a better job?

I don't have my e6400 anymore, but I also had issues with the touch pad. I downloaded the touchpad driver for the E6410 model and used it. It was an improvement. If I recall I uninstalled the previous driver and software first then installed the 6410 driver.
