Latitude E6400 left shift key PROBLEM

Hello, I have a problem with a LEFT shift key on a latitude E6400.

The left shift key will only work, every other stroke...., actually the left key will only do CAPS every other stroke....

The strange thing is that i can hit that shift key five times and bring up sticky keys menu.

The right shift KEY works perfectly fine, and an external keyboard works fine.
All other keys on the E6400 appear to work fine.

The key seems seated properly, and is a new laptop..new keyboard...the backlit keyboard.

Most likely a bad keyboard that Dell should replace?

    thanks

I've had a similar problem before on a Toshiba laptop. My ' key worked every other keystroke and will input two '. I thought it was a motherboard or keyboard issue at first. But after reinstalling Windows, the problem was gone. And then a few months later, I reinstalled Windows and some programs, the problem came back.

If an external keyboard works OK then the internal keyboard must be suspect.

I would first try removing and replacing the keyboard (instructions here) which may fix a poor contact on the keyboard connector. If that doesn't work then I would ask Dell for a replacement.
