    Hello,

I am using a PCMCIA (old style 54mm) sound card. If I start my laptop with the card out, everything is fine. If I start the computer with the card in, I lose use of all onboard USB ports. My docking station USB ports still work fine.

If I try and put a USB device into the laptop while I am using my PCMCIA sound card, it bluescreens and memory dumps.

I want to have use of USB and Soundcard at the same time. I thought it might be a IRQ problem, but I am reliably informed this is a thing of the past. As a side note - I want my onboard sound card to work alongside my PCMCIA card, as I still want to use the onboard speakers sometimes.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I am on Windows 7 pro. Specs should be in sig.

    Thank you

You could try changing the option for Legacy USB Support in the BIOS. Also disable any other unused devices.

Also try to reset the BIOS (I'm not sure how to do this) with the PCMCIA card installed. The BIOS may then reassign the IRQs.

To reset the motherboard you can do Load Defaults (not a real hard reset), or unplug the Cmos battery.

Your on an E6400 just pop the service hatch open (bottom cover) and unplug the cmos battery. Leave it unplugged for oh... 30 minutes to an hour. Edit: I forgot to mention unplug the adapter+ battery!
    Here's the service manual:
