E6400 stopped detecting Samsung monitor

    Thanks again. I already went ahead and ordered a Displayport to DVI adapter and will try that as soon as it gets in. I figured it's better to try the $10 cable with the option to return before trying the used $30 dock off ebay. I'll report back with the results.

    SUCCESS! I ordered a displayport to DVI cable, plugged in, and am now back to 1920x1080. It looks like it's either the VGA port or a connection between that port and the motherboard. $10 fix for normal browsing again. Thanks Robin! Fantastic advice!

    Glad to hear that you got it fixed. :)

    If you bring the laptop to and from work every day, the dock offers more than just a VGA port...no need to unplug a bunch of cables when you move the laptop, which also reduces wear and tear on other ports (power, RJ45, USB, etc.).
