long last with this *** almost 3 years but can't anymore.
    overheat and freeze all time.
    just terrible.

is there official dell response / fixes / something? last time i read about that problem here was at 2010 and afterwards left it that way

what can i demend from warranty?
(and i wouldn't start talking about the battery...)

    why i chose the e6400 over t400? :(

Not sure if you have already tried cleaning the fan, overheating is probably due to the 3 years of dust.

Do you have a SSD by any chance?
    What's your CPU?
What operating system you using, Windows Vista 32Bit?

Oh in that case, you may need the thermal paste changed due to the un-usual high temps. This is probably due to the thermal pad not touching, or paste not correctly seated to the heatsink. I would normally put on better thermal paste myself, but since you got warranty you can just ask them?

Can also undervolt your CPU to minimise excessive heat, have you head of ThrottleStop?

Though wouldn't recommend this if you don't understand the guide, I use to undervolt and overclock (IDA Glitch) on my XT2 with a Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400. Can contact Dell Hardware Chat support, don't be afraid to ask them for help....they really will bend over for you. Well they did for me ...really helpful. Can also change your battery if you got warranty on it too. There is no problem in asking, though I only went through to UK support.

[Edit] Forgotten to mention have you updated the BIOS to the latest?

I've never had an issues with my E6400, and it has both the T9400 and Nvidia GPU...

Since you've still got warranty, ask them for a replacement heatsink and fan assembly (that's the only way to replace the thermal pads). Replace the grease on the new heatsink with Arctic Silver 5, and your heat issues should be gone.

SpeedStep downclocks the CPU to save power. It will clock back up when you do something CPU-intensive.
