There's an E6400 for sale in my local area (used) but it has a WXGA screen (1280x800).

First, I was wondering if it is worth it to upgrade but it seems parts are in short supply if available at all.

So, my question is whether the laptop is worth it for $300 and 2nd, whether there's an option to upgrade.

I find that most parts on ebay are just the screen so you'd need the inverter? If so, I don't know what the inverter part # is and the ones that seem to be most available probably only fit the WXGA screens?

There's no complete units available as far as I can tell.... couldn't find any. Maybe it's not worth the trouble or maybe it's a hassle to replace the panel/screen/inverter/ etc.?

Can anyone provide any more info if this particular laptop model is still a good buy for this price?

    Thanks.

Depends on the E6400 specs and if it's still in warranty. Warranty IMO makes a great difference, but E6400 parts are dirt cheap on Ebay. Also depends on the E6400 whether its CCFL or LED.

    Oh, right...

There should be someplace on the website to check, right?

Replacing the LCD parts would void it, right?

Perhaps, WXGA+ res. might be too small, anyway?

I'm still waiting to hear back from the seller. I could live with the WXGA screen if the laptop is still under warranty. I just wondered what the options were if I bought it but later decided I'd like to try the high res screen. (Whether parts would be available and not at crazy high prices).

    Thanks for the reply!

Before you begin, keep in mind that you will end up spending about $150 on upgrading the screen. Is it worth it? I like the 1440x900 screen a lot (font is still easy to read), but it's only makes sense to get the option from the factory.

You should have about a year left on the warranty, and of course, it won't cover the new parts unless you purchase them from Dell Spare Parts and get the order # associated with the system.

Regardless, here's the parts you will need:

CT008 - LG Philips 1440x900 LED LCD (stay away from Samsung screens)
MT649 - LED LCD back cover, black
    GN241 - LED LCD bezel
WT212 - LED LCD left bracket
MT664 - LED LCD right bracket

The LED LCD cover should include a LCD cable, which you'll need. The WXGA screen is CCFL, and the back cover, bezel, cable, and brackets are different.
