Hi all I'm a newby from Italy and I'm glad to meet you in this interesting forum.
The company I work for recently gave me a new Dell Latitude E6410 replacing my previous Lenovo T61.
Overall it looks gorgeous however one little flaw is that it's missing the fingerprint reader that I was happy to use with T61.
The questions I have for you Dell-maniacs :D are:
-Would it be possible to replace the existing right speaker grill with the one that integrates the fingerprint stuff?
-Browsing the net I couldn't find the exact replacement part code for my E6410 (FX304 seems to be for model E6400 and D049D for E6500). Are these grills compatible among different models ?
    - Once identified the right replacement part for my D6410, is it just a matter of installing and connecting it to the Motherboard (plus drivers) or is there anything that I should do more ?

Thanks in advance for your help,
    Steve.

    Hi all,
after a careful inspection of my E6410 I'm afraid that adding a fingerprint reader requires a replacement of the entire palm rest :(
I've removed the access panel and from there removed the screws that secure the right speaker grill (those marked with an F and a P) however the grill doesn't loosen and it looks like glued to the palm rest.
I believe there's a different palm rest version for E6410 laptops with and without fingerprint reader.
.... Hope you can contraddict me otherwise I'll have to go for an external (USB) fingerprint reader :( .

I had an E6400 apart before and the fingerprint reader and speaker grill were built into the palm rest. I am assuming that it would be the same for the E6410 since they are very similar. I have not had my E6410 apart yet so I cannot tell you for sure. You may need to replace the palm rest to add a fingerprint reader, but it may be more trouble than its worth.

The E6410 palmrest has a fixed right speaker grille, unlike the E6400 (nice improvement, the right speaker grille on my E6400 is never completely flat), so to add the FPR, you'll need the palmrest with FPR hole.

The good thing is that a new palmrest is only about $20 (US pricing). However, finding a fingerprint reader is the difficult part...even E6400 ones are hard to find (they are compatible, but the housing is not). Before you go about searching for one, let me warn you...the FPR is only usable for preboot authentication and Windows logon. It's not UPEK, so it doesn't have the software suite to work with web logon and other windows.
