Looking at buying the new Seagate GoFlex eSata adapter but it requires a powered eSata port. Is the eSata port on the E6410 powered?

    Thanks!

The adaptor should work although personally (I am using both features of this port on my E6400) I would get one of the generic adaptors which I know will work with any brand of HDD.

FWIW, I have one of these; the GoFlex cable does work with any drive, not GoFlex drives. GoFlex drives are just HDDs in a case that leaves the SATA connection on the drive exposed.

    Very happy with it.

Jumping in here with another question:
Also have the E6410, a WD50 3.5" hdd in an Acomdata Tango USB/eSATA enclosure, and a SIIG eSATA cable (CB-SAO111-S1). Not sure why, but drive doesn't power up or get recognized when connected via the eSATA cable, but works fine (if lots slower) under the USB2 connections. Can anyone shed any light?

    Thanks!

Qualifying that I did not take the time to investigate that particular product, the eSATA Combo Port has the capacity to be powered, but only with a special cable that combines the USB connection into the eSATA cable. A basic eSATA cable alone serves as a data link between the drive and the controller, but needs an additional source for power. Assuming that the aforementioned enclosure does not support a powered eSATA cable, you still need to either connect an AC adapter cord or an additional USB cable to the enclosure and one of the available USB ports, in combination with the already connected eSATA cable, to provide a power source for data transfer.

The earlier discussion specifically refers to a particular cable that takes advantage of both the USB and eSATA connections within the Combo Port to reduce the number of cables required. Currently, there are only a handful of enclosures that support such a cable, though there are various cables that allow a direct connection to the HDD for powered eSATA capability.

It's a 3,5" disk right? So you'll need a power source besides the eSATA/USB port (power adapter?) And besides that you might want to take a look in disk management when hooking your ext. drive up through eSATA the first time. Usually you have to "import foreign disk" or activate or something but, whatever you do, DO NOT CLICK "CONVERT TO STANDARD DISK"!!! This'll format the whole drive ;)
