I started to double my IQ so I need a little bit help here. I bought an E6410 several days ago. The power supply and cord do not match (see the attached photos). So I called Dell last Friday and explained this to them. They apologized and said they would ship out a complete set of power supply and cord to make sure they fit. Today I got the replacement (that's really fast). To my surprise, they shipped me two sets. I don't know why, but the more the better. But when I opened them, both sets were exactly like what I had. I am confused. Am I the stupid one here?

That's the old style power brick with the new style power cord. I don't have an old style one to check for sure (my E6410 has the new slimline power brick and I sent my big fat one back with my M1530), but I'd reckon they wouldn't fit because if I recall correctly the shape of the connector is totally different. I think they're the stupid ones in this. ;)

Great. Thanks. Now I have my confidence back. I am going to call them again tomorrow. Hopefully they will send me 3 correct power cords, or 3 correct power supplies so I can have two sets of spares.

I can only hope that Dell manages to send you a matching power cord. I'd suggest that you find the proper part number online, before talking to the Dell rep.

Personally, I think that Dell has had a far better quality power supply than HP, at least in recent years. The new style thinner, squarer brick is preferable, but the old style unit would be more than adequate, if you had a cord that fit.

    FYI, x0y12004 (catchy s/n btw),

Dell fixed this in no time in my case. Requested replacement yesterday afternoon at 4pm and the new one is already here. The cord is identical to the previous one. The brick is different (it's the new, flat one) and that's what makes all the difference.

Tell them you need the 3-prong PA-3e power adapter and they should know what to send out. You got a PA-10 (old D-series adapter) with a PA-3e power cord.

My name is Terry and I am one of the moderators for Dell's Community Notebook forums. We are looking into why the wrong adapter or cables was sent. Please PM me the service tag of the notebook, and your region. x0y12004.

    Thanks
