Hi, I was trying to find a solution for this, but i seem to be out of luck

On a fresh win7 installation on Latitude E6410, with drivers up-to-date, I'm using a Logitech mouse with some buttons assigned to certain actions. The mouse wheel left and right move are dedicated to volume control (down, up).

The trouble is that changing the volume level this way is incredibly slow, like one step per second. You can imagine how annoying it is to go through the whole scale (e.g. while watching a movie and needing to decrease the volume level quickly and then back).

I've been using this very same mouse on two other Latitudes, and it worked instantly. I could change the volume swiftly.

    Any ideas?

When you installed Win7, did you install the E6410 drivers in the Dell prescibed order? Did you install the mouse software toward the end, after the sound driver?

windows & drivers were installed by our IT support, so i *assume* that the order was correct (i hope so at least, i'll ask for confirmation... i'm afraid they won't be available till monday)

mouse software was installed later by me, i.e. after the sound driver for sure.

thanks for the hint, at least there's some direction for further investigation :)

Could try un-installing/re-installing the mouse software... presumably it is for your Win7 version.

Are you using the Windows 7 default drivers or the Logitech specific ones? Certain Logitech mice you need the specific driver for certain features.

Guys, thanks a lot for the thoughts.

    So, first what it's not:
    - it's not wrong drivers (i've installed those exactly for this mouse and OS)
    - it's not the logitech sw (reinstalled several times)
    - it's not the antivirus (i was suspicious)

    ...it is UAC.

It took me a while to find out, and i've discovered the culprit by accident, when i needed to disable UAC completely because of some other (non-related) issue diagnostics. And, bingo, that's it.

I guess i can live with UAC off for a while, at least till next restart  and hopefully will find a solution then...

Ah UAC, well that's interesting. Good to know and good job!
